General Safety Instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully before putting the appliance into operation and

internal packing. If you give this device to other people, please also pass on the operating

instructions.

• Toavoidtheriskofreorelectricshock,youshouldnotexposethedevicetorainor

humidity. Do not use the device near water (e.g. bathroom, swimming pool, humid cel-

lars).

These symbols may be found on the machine and are intended to indicate the following:

The lightning symbol should advise the user of parts in the inside of the device

which carry dangerously high voltage levels.

Thesymbolwithanexclamationmarkshouldadvisetheuserofimportant

operation or maintenance instructions in the accompanying documentation.

Devices bearing this symbol work with a “class 1 laser” for tracing the CD. The

built-insafetyswitchesshouldpreventtheuserbeingexposedtodangerous

laser light, which is invisible to the human eye, when the CD compartment is

opened.

These safety controls must not be defeated or modified, as you might otherwise be

exposedtothelaserbeam.

Children and Frail Individuals

• Inordertoensureyourchildren’ssafety,pleasekeepallpackaging(plasticbags,boxes,

polystyrene etc.) out of their reach.

Caution! Do not allow small children to play with the foil as there is a danger of suf-

focation!

WARNING:

Listening to music at high volumes repeatedly and for long periods can cause hearing

damage. We recommend you select a comfortable volume setting. A low volume setting

Battery compartment

Start-up of the device/introduction

• Selectasuitablelocationforthedevice,suchasadry,at,non-slipsurfaceonwhichit

is easy to operate the machine.

• Removetheprotectivelmfromthedisplayifitisstillpresent.

Transport Safety Device, CD Compartment

• OpentheCD-compartmentbypressingthe button (3).

• Beforeoperatingthemachineforthersttime,removethetransportsafetydevice

from the CD player if it is still in place.

Inserting the Batteries (not supplied)

• Openthelidofthebatterycompartmentonthebottom.

• Insert2batteriesoftypeAA/R61.5V.Pleaseensurethatthepolarityiscorrect(seethe

oorofthebatterycompartment)!

• Thenclosethebatterylid.

NOTE:

A battery icon on the display will indicate that the battery needs to be replaced.

CAUTION:

• Ifthedeviceisnotusedforalongperiodoftime,removethebatteriestoavoidthe

spilling of battery acid.

CAUTION:

• Differentbatterytypesornewandusedbatteriesmustnotbeusedtogether.

• Batteriesarenottobedisposedoftogetherwithdomesticwastes.Disposeofthe

used batteries at the relevant collection bin or at your dealer’s.

WARNING:

Donotexposebatteriestoextremeheat,suchassunlight,reorsimilar.Thereisa dan-

ger of explosion!

PHONE Headphone jack (1)

For headphone operation, use a headphone set with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug plugged

into the headphone jack.

Volume

The desired volume can be sent using the VOLUME regulator (2).

Power off

Switch the device off during stop mode by pressing the

button (6) once.

During playback, press the button twice to switch off the device.

NOTE:

When in stop mode, the device will automatically turn off after 30 seconds without

operation.

ESP function

The device features an anti-shock function. When activated, the display will indicate the

functionbriey.Incaseofproblems,thedevicewillbeabletoreadtheCDmusiclesfrom

the fast memory without any problems. Sampling mistakes will be corrected later in the

fast memory.

Playing CDs/MP3

1. Open the CD-compartment by pressing the button (3).

2. Insert an audio CD with the printed side facing upwards on to the central cone so that

the CD clicks into place and then close the lid of the CD compartment.

3. Press the button (7) to switch on the device. The ESP memory will load and the

displaywillbrieyindicatetheactivatedESPfunction(memory60seconds).

4. The CD will play from the first title.

5. In order to remove a CD, press the button (6). Open the CD compartment and care-

fully lift the CD up.

Always keep the CD deck closed.

NOTE:

• IfthereisnoCD,orifaCDhasbeeninsertedupsidedown,thedisplaywillshow“NO

DISC”.

• PlaybackofCDsproducedbytheusercannotbeguaranteedduetothelargevariety

of software and CD media available.

The button can be used as follows:

Pressonce= Thisjumpsbacktothebeginningofthecurrenttrack.

Presstwice= Thisjumpsbacktotheprevioustrack.

Pressthreetimes=Thisplaysthesongbeforeetc.Ifthebuttoniskeptpresseddown,the

machine starts to search through the tracks. (This sets the sound to

mute.)

Playing back Music in MP3 Format

With this device it is possible to play back pieces of music in MP3 format. The device also

supports all standard CD types: CD, CD-RW, CD-R.

This machine of is able to play MP3 CDs. Up to 200 tracks can be compressed and stored

on these CDs. Your machine detects an MP3 CD automatically (the total number of tracks

and MP3s appears in the display). If you would like to play one of these CDs, proceed as

described under “Playing CDs/MP3”.

Please note:

There are a number of different recording and compression methods, as well as quality

differences between CDs and self-recorded CDs.

Furthermore,themusicindustrydoesnotadheretoxedstandards(copyprotection).

For these reasons it is possible that in rare cases there are problems with the playback of

CDs and MP3 CDs. This is not a malfunction of the device.

Never immerse the device in water.
