Composition

Virtual impression materials are addition-reaction silicones containing vinylpolysiloxane,

methylhydrogensiloxane, an organoplatinic complex, silicon dioxide and food dyes.

Indication

The Virtual line of addition-silicone (vinylpolysiloxane) impression materials is recommended for

use to create highly detailed impressions of the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity.

Final impression used for the fabrication of indirect restorations (crowns, bridges, inlays,

onlays and veneers)

Dental implant impressions

Matrix from “wax-ups“ or for the treatment planning, study models

Edentulous impressions

Matrix used to create temporary restorations

Each viscosity provides specific attributes to meet the needs of the dental professional.

Contraindication

The use of Virtual impression materials is contraindicated if the patient is known to be allergic to

any of the ingredients in Virtual impression materials.

Side effects

None known to date.

Interactions

The setting of vinylpolysiloxanes is inhibited by latex gloves.

Do not touch surfaces (teeth, preparations or retraction cords, etc.) of which the impression will

be taken with latex gloves. It is recommended that operators wash their hands thoroughly or

use vinyl gloves in order to eliminate all traces of impurities. Other materials which may inhibit

the set of impression materials include rubber dam, retraction cords and retraction cord fluids. If

the operator suspects that the preparation has been contaminated, it is recommended that the

preparation be rinsed and dried to eliminate all traces of impurities.

Application

Heavy Body (blue): High viscosity, hydrophilic vinylpolysiloxane suitable for final impressions.

This material is recommended for use as a tray material when using the tray/wash impression

technique.

Monophase (blue): Medium viscosity, hydrophilic vinylpolysiloxane for final impressions.

This material is recommended for use as a tray and wash material when using the dou-

ble-arch, single-phase impression technique.

Instructions for Virtual 380 cartridge materials:

®

®

The Virtual 380 cartridge is suitable for use in conjunction with Pentamix

, Pentamix

2,

®

Pentamix

3, MixStar-eMotion, Sympress, Duomix and Domix II, PowerMix, Dynamix

Speed as well as with Modulmix mixers. Carefully remove the Virtual 380 cartridges from the

packaging.

CAUTION: Avoid dropping the heavy Virtual 380 cartridges, as this may severely damage

the cartridges, so that they can no longer be used. Pentamix, Pentamix 2, Pentamix 3,

MixStar-eMotion, Sympress, Duomix and Domix II, PowerMix, Dynamix Speed as well as

Modulmix mixers are not registered trademarks of Ivoclar Vivadent.

Inserting the Virtual 380 cartridge:

(Please also refer to the corresponding directions for use of the manufacturer of the

mixing unit.)

Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5

1. Hold the cartridge with the sealed outlet openings facing upwards.

2. Grasp the flap on the sealing cap and bend it upward 90 degrees. Do not apply excessive

force in the process.

3. While holding the cartridge securely in one hand, take the flap between thumb and index

finger and completely remove the sealing cap. (Fig. 1)

4. Insert the cartridge into the mixing unit according the manufacturer’s instructions. (Fig. 2)

5. To control the flow of the pastes, start the mixing unit according to the manufacturer‘s

instructions and wait until a small amount is extruded (This should always be done prior to

starting the mixing process). Carefully wipe off excess material in a vertical direction to avoid

that the two components become intermixed inside the openings. (Fig. 3)

6. Attach a new dynamic mixer to the cartridge following the instructions of the mixing unit

manufacturer. (Fig. 4)

(NOTE: Only use dynamic mixers from Ivoclar Vivadent. As the dynamic mixers of other man-

ufacturers do not fit the openings precisely, leakage may occur.)

7. Should you have difficulty in attaching the dynamic mixer, check whether the central hexago-

nal socket at the lower end of the mixer is properly aligned with the hexagonal drive shaft.

8. Once the dynamic mixer is correctly seated, place the yellow locking ring over the mixer and

push it down completely. Turn the ring 1/4 turn clockwise to lock the dynamic mixer securely

in place. (Fig. 5)

9. Load a separate intra-oral elastomer syringe (only Virtual 380 Monophase) or a suitable

impression tray with the mixed Virtual impression material.

10. Select the fastest program for an optimum mixing speed and output rate.

11. Immediately after extrusion of the material, fully retract the plungers of the mixing unit to

avoid continual pressure on the cartridge and prevent the escape of excess material through

the dynamic mixer.

12. Leave the used dynamic mixer on the cartridge. It serves as a seal until next use. Additionally,

cross-contamination of base and catalyst and clogging of the outlet openings with set mate-

rial is avoided.

NOTE: It is recommended that the cartridge is removed from the mixing unit at the end of

each working day or when the mixer is not used for a longer period of time. It should be

stored in an upright position, with the outlet openings (sealed either by a dynamic mixer or

the sealing cap) facing upwards.

Pre-treatment of impression trays (tray adhesives)

It is highly recommended that tray adhesives (e.g. Virtual Tray Adhesive) be used to reduce

the chance of distortion when removing impressions from the mouth.

Instructions for Virtual Tray Adhesive

1. Be sure that all surfaces of the impression tray are oil-free, clean and dry.

Note: If the disinfection of the impression tray cannot be ensured, the tray

adhesive must be filled into a dappen glass, for example, and applied

using a disposable brush.

2. Apply a thin layer of Virtual Tray Adhesive using the brush provided to

all surfaces of the impression tray (metal or plastic) that will come into

contact with the impression material.

3. Allow the tray adhesive to dry for approximately 3 minutes (or blow dry

with compressed oil-free air)

4. Replace bottle cap immediately.

Cleaning of tray

Residue of adhesive material can be removed with alcohol.

Note the warnings in the Virtual Tray Adhesive Instructions for Use!

Disinfection of impressions

Impressions made with Virtual impression materials can be immersed in a disinfection solu-

tion (glutaraldehyde 0.5%, benzalkonium chloride 0.5%). (Please observe the instructions of

the manufacturer.) The disinfection does not affect the surface or the dimension.

Pouring up models

The impression may be poured immediately after disinfection, or up to two weeks later, pro-

vided that the impression is stored at room temperature. Dimensional stability is guaranteed

for 14 days, if stored appropriately. Virtual impression materials are compatible with all pop-

®

®

ular dental plasters on the market, e.g. Type 3: Modano

(Heraeus Kulzer), Type 4: Fujirock

(G.C. International).

Galvanization

Virtual impression materials can be silver or copper plated in a galvanic bath.

Special notes

Virtual impression materials should be at room temperature (23 °C / 73.4 °F) when processed.

Lower temperatures, e.g. when stored in the refrigerator, will prolong the time the impression

material should remain in the mouth, while higher temperatures will reduce the processing time

and the time the impression should remain in the mouth.

Vinylpolysiloxanes are chemically resistant. Unpolymerized materials may stain clothing.

Warnings

If uncured materials come into contact with the eyes, rinse the eye with copious amounts of

water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. In case of contact with the skin, wash affected

areas with plenty of water.

Storage

Storage temperature: 2–28 °C / 36–82 °F

Shelf life: See expiration date on label and packaging

Keep away from direct heat sources!

Keep out of the reach of children!
