Introduction

The Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-IV840 can be

connected to any device with Bluetooth wireless

technology that supports the handsfree or headset

profile. This User guide focuses on usage with

a Sony Ericsson mobile phone.

Charging

Before you use the HBH-IV840 for the first time,

charge it with the supplied charger until the indicator

light turns green. Full battery capacity will be achieved

after the headset has been charged and discharged

a couple of times.

Pairing the headset

Before you can use your Bluetooth headset with your

phone it has to be paired once to the phone. Follow the

instructions from your phone User guide on how to turn

on Bluetooth in the phone.

For phones that do not support auto pairing, see your

phone User guide on how to pair a Bluetooth device.

If required, the headset passcode is 0000.

Note: The headset switches off if you do not pair it with

the phone within 10 minutes.

To pair the headset with the phone

Turn on Bluetooth in the phone.

Turn on Bluetooth visibility in the phone. This

makes the phone visible to other Bluetooth devices.

Place the phone within 20 cm (8 inches) from the

headset.

Make sure the headset is turned off. Press and hold

down the power key for five seconds. Make sure

the

indicator light flashes red or green.

If the phone supports auto pairing, press Yes when

Add device? appears in your phone to complete

the

procedure. If not, see the phone User guide.

The headset beeps and flashes green when

successfully paired.

After you have added the headset to the phone, it will

automatically connect to the phone as soon as it is

turned on and within range.

Putting on the headset

To put on the headset

Attach the ear plug to the headset.

Make sure you place the earpiece firmly in your ear.

Warning! Loud volume could damage your hearing.

Turning on and off

To turn on the headset

Press and hold down the on/off key for two seconds.

A beep is heard and the indicator light flashes green.

To turn off the headset

Press and hold down the on/off key for two seconds.

A beep is heard and the indicator light is turned off.

Calling

When you have paired the headset with your phone, you

can make and receive calls as long as the headset is

turned on. For best performance the headset should be

within 5 metres (16.5 feet) of the phone. Solid objects

and walls in between and greater distance can affect the

sound. We recommend that you wear your headset on

the same side of your body as your phone.

To make a call

Use the phone keys, and dial the number in the

same

way as you normally would with your phone.

The

call is automatically activated in the headset.

To end a call

Press the call handling key.

To answer a call

Press the call handling key.

To reject a call

Press and hold down the call handling key for two

seconds.

To redial a number

Press the call handling key twice within a second.

Adjusting volume

To adjust speaker volume

During a call, press the volume key on the phone.

Calling using voice commands

Voice commands can be useful when you are using

the headset. By creating voice commands you can,

for example, call someone by saying their name.

Note: To be able to use this function, you first have

to

activate voice control in your phone and record voice

commands. For more information on voice commands,

and if your phone supports it, see the phone User guide.

To make a call using voice commands

Press the call handling key, wait for the ring signal

and say the command.

Transferring sound

To transfer the sound from the phone

to

the headset

During a call on the phone, press the call handling

key. The sound is transferred to the headset.

Resetting the headset

Reset the headset if it behaves unexpectedly.

To reset the headset

Enter pairing mode.

Simultaneously press the power key and the call

handling key until the indicator light is turned off.

Battery

A battery that has been infrequently used, or a new one,

could have reduced capacity. It may need to be

recharged a number of times.

When the battery is too low, the indicator light flashes

red and you hear a low beep. If you do not charge the

headset, it automatically turns off.

To check the battery status

Press the power key once shortly.

one green flash - the battery needs charging.

two green flashes - the battery is medium full.

three green flashes - the battery is fully charged.

Troubleshooting

No connection between headset and phone

Make sure the headset is charged and within range

of the phone. Check or redo the Bluetooth settings

in the phone. Try to pair the headset again.

The headset is automatically turned off

The battery is too low. The indicator light on

the

headset flashes red and you hear a low beep.

When the headset is in pairing mode it will

automatically switch off if you do not add

it

to the phone within 10 minutes.

Unexpected behaviour

Connect the charger.

Disconnect the charger.

Reset the headset.

Redial does not work

If the call list in the phone is empty you cannot use

the redial function.

Voice commands

Make sure that voice commands are enabled and

recorded in your phone before you start using them.
